I love Mossman Gorge, but ever since my first visit in the 1980s I have been frustrated by the limitations of the standard panoramic format: I could only ever fit about half of this beautiful location into a single photograph. That changed when I acquired my Seitz Roundshot 220 camera, with its rotating head. This photograph is a 240 degree view, taking in everything from the flow of the stairs on the far right to the expanse of the swimming hole. To get the shot we had to arrive very early, before the tourist rush. Even then we had a few eager swimmers behind us. But they were patient enough to let us capture the two minute scan before plunging in. Just as we finished, a tourist bus arrived, emptying its hordes into the peacefulness of the scene - which would have made this shot impossible.
